How does the Jam Loyalty Reward Program work?

Jam creates an opportunity for retail stores to offer loyalty rewards to their customers or to Beneficiary Organisations nominated by their customers when goods and services are purchased and paid for using the 2D mobile payment mechanism

The customers can choose whether they want to receive the loyalty rewards themselves or whether they want to give the loyalty rewards to a Beneficiary Organisation.

The Retail Store decides how much loyalty they would like to offer to Jammers, which is expressed as a % of the transaction value.

The Jammer (customer) decides to whom the loyalty rewards should be paid by way of the Account Type they enroll for. See the different Account Types offered to a Jammer to understand how the Loyalty Rewards are allocated.

Why do I need a Loyalty Program?

It’s no secret anymore that loyalty programs are effective marketing tools. They increase growth, help retain customers, and improve your reputation. And if you haven’t yet weaved a loyalty program into your marketing strategy, you may be missing out on one of the best and easiest tools available for the success of your business.

What is a Beneficiary Organisation?

A Beneficiary Organisation can be any Jam approved organisation. A Jam registered beneficiary organisation can receive loyalty rewards from a retail store on purchases made by a Jammer who belongs to the community of the beneficiary organisation. An example is a school, where the parents of the school (Jammers) nominate the school to receive the loyalty rewards on purchases they make with a 2D payment at a participating retail store. Other examples of Beneficiary Organisations can be charities, churches, clubs, or any other community grouping.

What Is 2D?

2D is a convenient and secure way of receiving mobile payments from customers. 2D South Africa (Pty) Ltd. facilitates the 2D transactions between Jammers (customers) and retail stores and settles to the bank account of the retail store. Jammers use their JamJar (integrated with the 2D payment technology) to make 2D payments to retail stores and service providers. A Retail store requests a 2D code from a Point of Sale device and presents it to Jammers for payment (see “How are retail stores 2D Enabled?” for more information of the ways in which a 2D Code can be requested for payment). The Jammer pays the 2D code from their JamJar accessed by his/her mobile phone.

What other transactions can a Jammer do at my retail store?

A Jammer can do cash withdrawals and cash deposits. Should the retail store agree to facilitate these transactions, A Jammer will be able to deposit cash into his / her JamJar and withdraw cash from his / her JamJar at the retail store. This brings feet into your store which is good for business.

Will I receive a fee for facilitating a Cashback Transaction (cash withdrawal)?

Will I make money out of selling the above pre-paid products?

Yes. Should you also be interested in in-store vending of pre-paid products the margin splits will be agreed with you during the sign up process to become a participating retail store.

What is the process to become a participating retail store?

For a retail store to sign up to the Jam Loyalty Reward Program and become 2D Enabled, the following is required:

Step 1: Complete and submit the Retail Store Signup form on the website.

Step 2: We will contact you and provide you with the Application Form and 2D Services Agreements for your submission together with the required FICA Documentation

Step 3:We will advise you on the most suitable technical solution for your business in order for you to request 2D Codes for payment at your Point of Sale and we will assist in the technical implementation, training and support.

Should you be interested in our in-store vending solutions for pre-paid products (airtime, electricity, etc.), we will discuss the options and commercial terms with you.

What are the different ways in which my retail store can request a 2D Code at POS?

Use a simple Mobile Phone.

How Long Will It Take For A Completed 2D Transaction To Reflect In My Bank Account?

Retail stores are settled within a 48 hour settlement window (except over weekends) by way of an EFT transaction from 2D South Africa (Pty) Ltd. to the retail store’s nominated bank account.

Can I See A Report?

Transaction reports are made available to a Retail store for each settlement run.

What Are The Transaction Costs Associated With a 2D Transaction?

Firstly there is a Basic 2D Service Fee payable to 2D South Africa (Pty) Ltd. This fee is agreed with the Retail store as part of the contract documentation. This service fee can be equated to a typical Retail store Commission % payable to the Retail store’s Acquiring Bank for card transactions.

Secondly there is a Loyalty Reward % calculated on the value of the sale transaction. This % is defined by the Retail store and is the % of Loyalty Reward that the Retail store would like to give back to the Loyalty Beneficiaries (a Jam registered Beneficiary Organisation for example a school and / or the Jammer). 2D South Africa pays over the loyalty to Jam Money for All (Pty) Ltd, who in turn distributes the loyalty to the intended beneficiaries. Jam takes 10% of the Loyalty Reward % as an administration fee and the remaining 90% is distributed to the Loyalty Beneficiaries.

Retail stores are settled net of the Basic Service Fee and Loyalty Rewards.

How do I facilitate a “Cash Deposit” transaction where a Jammer wants to deposit cash into his / her JamJar at my retail store?

At the retail store point of sale a Jammer will request to deposit money into his / her JamJar. The Jammer must provide you with his / her mobile phone number that is linked to the retail store’s JamJar. The retail store will log into their JamJar and will select the “Deposit Money” transaction. The Jammer will hand over the cash to the retail store representative who will input the Jammer’s mobile number and the amount and submit the transaction. Once the transaction is confirmed, funds will flow from the retail store’s JamJar to the Jammer’s JamJar and you will receive a notification. Example: “Jam Mobile Deposit of R 300.00 to 073 7654321 Ref: 123456”.

How do I facilitate a Cash-out Transaction?

At the retail store point of sale a recipient of a “Money Send” Transaction will request a cash-out transaction. The retail store will log into their JamJar, will select “Money Transfer Claim” and input the following information:

• Transfer code provided by the recipient

• Sender’s mobile phone number provided by the recipient

• Amount

Click the “Request” button. Once the transaction has been completed successfully, the retail store will receive the amount in its JamJar and will hand over the cash to the recipient.

How do I facilitate a Cashback transaction where a Jammer wants to withdraw cash form his / her JamJar at my retail store?

At the retail store point of sale the Jammer will request a cash withdrawal from his / her JamJar. The retail store must provide a Jammer with its mobile phone number linked to the retail store’s JamJar. The Jammer will log into his / her JamJar and select the “Withdraw Money” transaction. The Jammer will be required to input the retail store’s mobile phone number and the amount. Once the transaction is confirmed, funds will flow from the Jammer’s JamJar to the retail store’s JamJar and the retail store will hand the cash to the Jammer. You will receive a notification. Example: “Jam Withdrawal of R 150.00 for 073 1234567 Ref: 123456”.
